November 26th – December
2nd
Well, we are in San Mateo, California,
and J. is starting her orientation for Stanford Hospital. We got
pretty much settled and comfortable in the apartment. It is just
fine. It seems be pretty quiet. We can just cross the road and we are
on the bay, where is the bay trail. Even we are in urban setting
(power lines etc), it is pretty nice.
I think, I can feel the difference
between Flagstaff and San Mateo in elevation. Looking at the signs,
we are about 30 feet above the the sea.
J. spent couple days in Stanford and
couple days in Redwood City for computer orientation. We had some car
issues, so I had to see a mechanic. I drove J., so we had some
extensive experience with the traffic. As well, apparently, we are
experiencing winter storm, so it is raining really heavy. But it
feels pretty nice, because the temperature is in 60's. And the fall
is still happening.
We as walked through downtown San
Mateo. It is nice place, there is incredible number of restaurants.
It is about an mile to walk to Caltrain station and beginning of
downtown. The traffic is pretty heavy, but is is not horrible. We
could park in downtown for only 50 cents an hour. The parking at
hospital in horrible, so it is going to be hard for J. and her
driving to and from work.
One afternoon, we took walk on the bay
trail. There are almost no trees, and you see the power lines all the
time, but it is a change from completely urban setting. So, that
works too.
On Tuesday, J. brought her uniform
(does not fit very well).
They were relatively short days,
because J. had a lot of online courses to do. Obviously, she had hard
time to sit down and get it done. We took another walk on the bay,
this time we walked some through the neighborhood. Across the street,
we have a catholic church and school. Kids were just getting out. It
was pretty nice day, there was a sliver of sun and a lot of clouds.
We really enjoyed all the trees and flowers (the end of November).
And … the bay was pretty nice too.
