HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
J. was working midnights and that
pretty much ruined any possible trips. Her switching from day to
night, meaning pretty much lost day. Luckily, next week is the last
one for the night shift.
On the last day of the year, J.
switched from the night and we drove to Livermore, to spend the
evening with the family. Really nice dinner, two babies for a while
and then just nice adult conversation and games. We all were pretty
tired, so we left about an hour before midnight. At the time of
crossing San Mateo Bridge (after paying 5 dollars toll), we started
to see some fireworks. We were pretty sure, that we were seeing as
well fireworks from San Francisco. It was pretty. We do not really
care or celebrate New Year, so it was just fine ...
The rest of the week, J. had to work
three nights and it did not make sense to switch, so she slept
through the days. One day, I took a walk in Pulgas Open Space
Preserve. There, I discovered why the trails are so muddy. There is
some frost in the night. It was night walk in the forest with pretty
views. I still cannot believe how much nature is preserved so close
to densely populated areas.
The weather was still kind of ugly. The
nights were pretty cold (still, it is not snowing here) and few days
it was raining. It is strange with small apartment and one person
sleeping during the day. I did a lot of reading (news are making me
really sad), finished few books and relaxed. Another day, I took
walked in Edgewood Park. In the same area as Pulgas, I knew what I
was getting into. The walk was longer (somewhat steeper too), but
really nice. The views were very similar, so was the nature.
I was trying to make a phone call
before entering the park (close to road, many houses etc), but I had
no signal. The reception here is really bad.
In this strange situation, we had
another week behind us. Next week, we are going to Monterey, after
that J. is flying to Michigan. As Sunday was cloudy, I just walked
along the bay and in some way, it was sad view (gray, cloudy and low
tide). Oh well …
