Berkeley, CA

December 15th, 2012

On rainy Saturday, we planned to go to Berkeley. We got bunch of free passes from San Mateo library, one of them was for University of California Botanical Garden. We discovered, that J. forgot her walled at work, so we drove to hospital. After that, we drove to Berkeley. The traffic was busy, but moving just fine.
We did not get lost, even the roads were somewhat confusing. We did not enjoy the weather (with some light rain on and off). We drove across part of the campus and parked by the gardens. It was really incredibly interesting, how close we were to town and how much in nature we were. We did not have to pay (nice thing). It was pretty cold and there were almost no people (we like that). The garden was pretty nice, there were few greenhouses and even many plants outside was blooming, so it was good.

The garden was on the hills, so there was few places, that we could see a bay and even Golden Gate Bridge (in distance and in fog). Still …
We continued driving on Centennial drive (campus) and found great spot to view the city and whole bay. It was incredible view (even with some rain and a lot of fog).

We got lost there (and cranky some). With the smart phone, we got back and found our way into the city. We made quick visit to street festival (it was raining pretty hard at that point). J. did not take her jacket or umbrella, so she was using my umbrella and I was getting really wet. It looked like bunch of hippies and mostly trinkets (t-shirts, jewelry, stones etc.). Few more city blocks and we parked close to farmers market. Still heavy rain and bunch of hippies and organic stuff.
We both had enough, so we got back on freeway (heavy traffic in the city) and had to suffer even more traffic on the freeway. We had some stop and go along Berkeley, later then on Bay Bridge. Going through San Francisco was pretty slow too. We really miss the traffic from Flagstaff.
